I just got like 20 points for a WU. What is the deal yo? I wish I understood how that works.

I was getting like 250 and 300 points before. Now 20???

Is it because I have more CPUs folding now?

Points earned depends on the amount of work required to finish a work unit. ideally, points/time should be the same for all work units.

Take a gander at your log and check the following:

    1) The name of the protein you were Folding. It will probably have a long (and weird-looking) name like this:

    Protein: p1140_RIBO_FSpeptide_EXT_nospring

You may have just had a dinky WU. We can look up the protein and see what the point value is for a completed WU.

My A64 3500+ just finished a 600-Point WU at a rate which would lead to about 2000 ppw if I kept getting them. The very next WU was a 46-Pointer which is Folding at a 770 ppw average. The best thing I can say about it is that it will Fold start-to-finish in about ten hours. I don't let it bother me, though. There's nothing to say that it won't be a tiny little protein which eventually unlocks the secret to a dramatic step forward in medicine.

    2) Check the Start and End Time and calculate the total time it took to Fold. Chances are, if the WU did finish normally it wasn't very long.

    3) See if the log says anything like "Early WU End". Sometimes the program reaches a point with a particular protein where it simply cannot go any further, sort of as if it had painted itself into a corner. That happens to everyone from time to time, and is just part of the game.

    4) See if there is a line like "System instability has been encountered..." Of the four things I've listed, that's the only one you can do anything about. If this is the case, you might check your temperatures and ease off on any overclocking action you might have going on.

PS: I'm just now going to bed, so it won't be early, but you might just want to check the Notable Milestones Forum again tomorrow. ;)
