The battleground has moved to individual PCs as leading search companies develop free tools for cataloguing your computer.

View: Yahoo has slight edge in desktop searches
The three I tried are all good at finding files — even ones I thought I had long deleted (whoops!!!). Of the three desktop search programs, the Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. products differ slightly in how they approach your data, while the Google Inc. alternative diverges quite a lot. Which one is right for you comes down to your needs and regard for privacy.

I dont like these desktop search apps, just seems creepy to have all my emails, documents, and everything on my computer easily indexed and searchable like that... may sound dumb but I know where the things I want are and I dont feel comfortable having some application that indexes every piece of information on my PC.

What's the point in this if you have a perfectly fine search tool built into windows already?

Well, unlike the windows search which just does it by filename, these programs search the text of documents and emails and stuff
