Rome: Total War - Installation Problems

I cannot get Rome: TW to install properly. It wouldn't uninstall properly either, giving me the same error message everytime (please see attached.)

I have a feeling this is due to the fact that I moved some stuff around in my case when installing a new NEC DVD/RW drive a while back. The drive letters changed around on the "game" harddrive and the virtual drives I'm running. I've had other issues with games but were able to fix them by re-directing their shortcut paths. However, Rome refused to allow me to do this. I couldn't find a way to uninstall, so I got REALLY smart and just deleted its folder, deleted the registry keys with RegEdit, and did a search and deleted everything with the word "Rome" in it.

Now, I get the same error when trying to INSTALL that I get when I tried to UNINSTALL earlier. What can I do?

Cliff's Notes:
-Rome wouldn't uninstall properly
-Rome now won't install properly
-Deleted Rome folder
-Doing this on a second harddrive
-I'm hungry.

*Sigh* Sorry guys, apparently the registry editing program I use, RegCleaner, wasn't as through as I thought, solution can be found here:

    I'm honored :)

However it seems like I've spoken too soon, just to keep my on my toes windows is now throwing two error messages my way, and the problem is getting more cryptic. Please see attached...

I'm guessing windows installer is messed up somehow? Trying (re)installing it from Windows Update or if MS has it on their site somewhere.

Do you mean to say re-installing after a windows update?

I'm googling now, just got back from dinner. Hunger is gone, but now I'm gassy, I really cannot win tonight. :(

Thank you kindly. I'm not sure if it was that or SP2 (which I FINALLY installed.)

I'm guessing it was that, I already tried updating it but the one I found was for every version of windows BUT XP, since it said that that version was included with Xp Home. Is there anything you don't know?

    No.

    Hello, Justin--

I have a friend who is having problems, apparently involving the video card and the sound card, running Medieval: Total War. I am guessing this game is related to the one you've been discussing. I've posted a request for updated drivers for the 32 MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra and a SoundBlaster with 5.1 support, ("though apparently not version 5.1 as the drivers available for that didn't recognize the card as valid"). (That part from my friend. ) However, no replies from the drivers forum as yet.

I had difficulty following the resolution of the problem with Rome: Total War. If you think my friend's problem and the Rome problem might be related, can you suggest a solution?

    Thanks very much--

    Coolest

I cannot load Rome Total War past the licence agreement stage. I had been recently playing it but decided to uninstall after the game kept crashing a few times(up until then it had been working fine). Anyone know what this error is indicating and what maybe the cause?

Does your computer meet the minimum system requirements.

Games don't check for that, and you didn't read the error.

It says error creating dialog, which means the installer isn't properly generating the next menu in the installation process.

Clean CD or copy the files directly to your PC and attempt to install from there.

EDIT: prime is definitely right, that you have an issue reading the CD. It is possible that you have a CD dirty enough to cause that error, but if it has scratches it may not be possible to get info off onto your PC.

If your disc is scratched then I suggest the Skip DR Deluxe

    image

I can't count how many discs this thing has brought back from the shredder. (One in particular though was an old copy of AOE2, the thing was so badly damaged that it wouldn't even read, but after a round in the Skip DR it worked like it was brand new)

    I absolutely love this thing.
