looking for help with search assistant (hjt &startuplist included)[inactive]
hi,
dear white knights, first of all i should say i don't have any computer know how except for turn on/off which i am just mastering.
i have this swine SearchAssistant on my computer.
i have run s&d and Adaware. Adaware scans fine but freezes itself when i try and delete (it show the delete progress bar as full but nothing happens)
both have been unsuccessful.
i followed steps 1-3 in removal guide.
i then tried step 4
(Step 4 - Click Start, and then Run. Type "Services.msc" in the run box and hit enter. Look for any of the following services:
Network Security Service
Workstation NetLogon Service
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper)
using with and without quotation marks.
i get the following error:
"Cannot find the file 'services.msc' (or one of its compononts). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are availible."
this is even though i have selected to show hidden files and folders in C.
i then tried "get active services" as instructed, this gives me the following error message:

So.... i followed the advice that read
"If you have trouble, you can check your services through Hijack This. Run HJT. Click on Config -> Misc Tools. Check off the 2 options under the button that says "Generate StartupList Log", then click the button itself. Generate that log, save it as a text file, and then examine that log. It is a very long and detailed log, but scroll down until you see the line "Enumerating Windows NT/2000/XP services""
but there was no Enumerating Windows parts on it (i am probably causing you to shout 'oh you idiot', i apologise). this is the log;

dear white knights, first of all i should say i don't have any computer know how except for turn on/off which i am just mastering.
i have this swine SearchAssistant on my computer.
i have run s&d and Adaware. Adaware scans fine but freezes itself when i try and delete (it show the delete progress bar as full but nothing happens)
both have been unsuccessful.
i followed steps 1-3 in removal guide.
i then tried step 4
(Step 4 - Click Start, and then Run. Type "Services.msc" in the run box and hit enter. Look for any of the following services:
Network Security Service
Workstation NetLogon Service
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper)
using with and without quotation marks.
i get the following error:
"Cannot find the file 'services.msc' (or one of its compononts). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are availible."
this is even though i have selected to show hidden files and folders in C.
i then tried "get active services" as instructed, this gives me the following error message:

So.... i followed the advice that read
"If you have trouble, you can check your services through Hijack This. Run HJT. Click on Config -> Misc Tools. Check off the 2 options under the button that says "Generate StartupList Log", then click the button itself. Generate that log, save it as a text file, and then examine that log. It is a very long and detailed log, but scroll down until you see the line "Enumerating Windows NT/2000/XP services""

So, i would really appreciate any advice you guys could give me as this think is driving me nuts. if i have been a dolt and missed out something or done something the wrong way round i apologise but i am wuite out of my dpeth here.

Make a new folder on your desktop and name it 'SpSeHjfix109'.
Download SpSeHjfix109 place it in the new folder and unzip the program.

Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
Run SpSeHjfix109 and click on "Start Disinfection".
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the new folder.
Please post a new hijackthis log and the log from SpSeHjfix.
