partitioning

edited April 2005 in Science & Tech
I've got an 80 gig hd. I'm using 75% and would like to partition it so that I can run photoshop on it's own scratch disk. Question is, is there a way to do this in XP without having to reformat the disk and reinstall everything? Help would be appreciated.

I've done it using partitionmagic (8). I don't think the built-in windows xp disk management can do it though.

You won't gain any speed giving it a seperate scratch partition. It needs a seperate DISK not partition to help. A seperate drive letter hurts not helps if its a partition on the same drive. especially so since your already 75 percent full. Meaning the partiton would be at the end of the drive where I-O is the slowest. So you would be forcing teh heads to move way down to the slowest part of the drive and forcing it to use that portion of the disk for its scratch area.

    Bad idea.

Sorry I misunderstood when you said above "I'm using 75%".

I assumed you had USED 75 percent?
