Plz help me get rid of ximages offeroptimizer

Hi all,
Since about a week ago my computer got infested with ximages offeroptimizer popups... really annoying.

Please, please help me to get rid of it. I had Norton Internet Security with NAV when i got infested, now i have switched to McAfee.
I have done repeted complete scans of my computer with updated AdAware, SpyBot, Registry Mechanic and CCleaner. But none of them seems to be able to fix this.

I now understand that it is able to get to it via HijackThis, and I now ask for your help. Plz review my HijackThis log below and give me a hint on what to do.

Hi! and welcome to the short-media forums .

We'll need to disable AdAware's AdWatch, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system; you can re-enable it after we're done. To disable this feature, run Run AdAware SE, then:

1. Click "AdWatch".
2. Click "Tools and Preferences".

(Look at the bottom of the window you will see two options...)


3. Uncheck these options:

Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically


Remember to re-enable this feature once your system is clean.

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

Also move the "Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinSys.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u Pynix.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

Hi Crunchie, and a big, big thanx!

Phew, this was somewhat nervwrecking... followed your instructions to the letter. But, when booting into safemode to be able to delete pyinx.dll I checked /SAFEMODE via msconfig - not good... ;\
The comp continously reebooted after winxp welcome screen (with ticker). I was on really deep water. After a few frantic calls to friends, surfing the web w my pda i resorted to trial and error. Thought that it had to do with booting, I went through Recovery Console and made a copy of boot.ini and restored a backupcopy of the same without the /safeboot.

It worked.

And... no more ximages optimizer what it seemes like.

We'll need to disable AdAware's AdWatch, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system; you can re-enable it after we're done. To disable this feature, run Run AdAware SE, then:

1. Click "AdWatch".
2. Click "Tools and Preferences".

(Look at the bottom of the window you will see two options...)


3. Uncheck these options:

Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically


Remember to re-enable this feature once your system is clean.

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

Here's a canned I will be posting for each finished log .

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the setup instructions.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Download Spywareblaster, from www.javacoolsoftware.com install and keep it updated to help keep your system clean.
Once you have checked for updates, click the 'enable all protection' link.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others. Go here

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

This one too if Win2K or XP.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.
