silent fand for my cpu

edited May 2005 in Hardware
hi there i have this (i think) 60mm cpu fan thats really annoying .. its so loud and its at like 5300 rpm and my cpu is still at high 50C sometimes even 60C

i was wonding if buying someting like this thermaltake "big typhoon" 120mm fan would make a big differnce to my cpu temperature .. i know that it would be very silent .. well at least i think it will be.

also i want to know if it will fit on my amd athlon xp1700+

also should i get this "silent tower" from thermaltake instead of getting the "big typhoon" ??? would it make a differnece???

I imagine it would cool pretty good, but I'd be worried about the way that heavy SOB mounts up. Not about clearance, because of the way it's made, but if it uses the socket lugs for mounting that sucker is some kind of heavy at 813 grams. That's about 1 3/4 pounds that looks like it would be hanging off of the socket and it wouldn't take a very hard knock at all for it to rip the socket off of the mobo. That would be my main worry about it.

for the size and weight of the thing the silent tower isnt worth it, i tried one out before and second muddocktor in that its so heavy it takes a long ass time just to get the sob mounted with a good flush connection with the cpu. youll end up having to use a string or something to support it up.
if i were u ide go with this..

i would definitely NOT get that bigass moutain of a cpu cooler. get the Big Typhoon- it looks nice, and its REAL quiet.

    Im leaning towards the zalman

on quiet mode you wont beable to even tell your pc is on noise level.

And its temps are awesomely low :D
