ALTHOUGH the Opteron 246 (2.0ghz) has only been for sale for a month, AMD is moving ahead to launch a <b>Opteron 248</b> part soon, most likely within the next few weeks. This chip will run at 2.2 GHz and be dual-operation capable. Opteron 146 (2.0ghz) also will pop up in a few days here (the 8th), but is only capable of single CPU operation.

Releasing a 2.2 GHz part so quickly after their 2 GHz implies that AMD may have finally turned the corner on whatever yield problems they've experienced and be gearing the Athlon 64 and Opteron architectures up for a real fight. µ
