I dont have a 64Bit rig yet, but if you do, this might be of use.

Microsoft is giving free upgrades from WinXP 32 to WinXP 64. You pay 12$ shipping. This only works for XP Pro. Not home.

Check http://microsoft.productorder.com/clientx64/ for full details.

I just tried and the system is "We were unable to process at this time".... ;D

Also... My OEM COA will not enter. Their form is messed up. I think they wanted the serial number under the normal code from the COA sticker...

I'd bet it's the "preinstalled" thing that's catching you. I suspect a plain vanilla OEM license isn't going to cut it... :bawling:

If you're looking to upgrade to the OS in the first place, you're more than likely going to know about the driver issues. It hasn't been released mainstream yet, so resources haven't been placed into creating drivers for Windows XP 64. It was the same with Windows 2000 when it was first released. It was hard to get a lot of hardware to work. It didn't take very long for drivers to start springing up everywhere after it was released, though.

hardware manufactors have said they will support the x64 o/s but they have no time frame on when these drivers will be released.

Exactly. Which means it could be tomorrow, or a few months from now. Either way, there will be drivers available. There was no reason to develop drivers for it while still in testing, as something could change which renders the driver useless anyway.

I'm a little confused by this. The number on the General tab is a 5-3-7-5 number. Is this not a PID?

This doesn't work on custom built systems with no sticker, does it?

Do you also have to return your old WinXP 32bit CD?

Sorry danball1976 I can't positively answer either of your questions.

I have yet to get a 64bit rig, so I haven't put much effort into this at all.

I am guessing once you activate your XP64 key they will ban you XP32 key, or prevent it from activating it again.

I think I know a way you can get your PID. PM me if you need it.

i think that they WILL send you a copy of winxp64 but it will have to be activated in 30 days.!!!

can it be that difficult to see?
    just a guess.
