Can't play avi files on dvd-r

edited April 2005 in Science & Tech
Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a set of avi files that were copied on a dvd-r for me, but I can't view any of them using any software I have on my computer. I've tried WMP, Real and DivX. They all just freeze when I open the file. At first Windows told me that it was due to a file called ivivideo.ax, but I couldn't find this on my computer, and I couldn't manually delete it either (it said "specified module not found"). Now it says that the error is unknown.

I've been told to use GraphEdit, but as I'm not very well versed in the world of computers, this means nothing to me. I would really appreciate some help here. Thanks in advance!

Try opening the files with a program called Gspot. Report back to this thread with the codec that Gspot tells you the videos are using, and I can point you in the right direction.

Could it perhaps be an issue with reading from the disc? If you could copy them to your hard drive, you might have more luck...

It says that the videos are using DivX5.0 codecs (4CC - DX50/divx). But it also says that there are 2 compatible codecs installed....

It doesn't work if I copy the file into my hard drive and try to play it either. =/ But I am getting a friend to try playing the disc on her comp tomorrow to see if the problem is with the disc or not.

Don't worry. It's been fixed now. Thanks anyway! :)
