I'm sort of thinking the same thing :D

I'm a little concerned though, because I have seen people get WAY too involved in WoW. Seems to be a very time consuming game

So far, I can't justify buying it and paying a monthly fee with something like Guild Wars coming out Friday. I'll simply wait for Guild Wars and give the MMORPG realm a shot since it doesn't require monthly setup.

First of, WoW will most likely consume you to some degree. How much depends on you....It is one of the top 10 games I have ever played. I've only played one other MMORPG (City of Heroes), and WoW is significantly better. It's simple enough to pick up quickly, but diverse and deep enough to occupy you for months. Blizzard seems to do a good job with releasing updates and patches. Also, it does appeal to all ages. My son (10 years old) and I routinely team up, but I also have a higher level character who I play most nights with a group of 10 international friends (UK, CA, US) in a guild. We are very close and don't take ourselves too seriously. Just as much smack and cutdowns are unleashed as magic and combat. Everyone is willing to loan gold or help newbies as well. The gameplay put simply is sublime....

The con is WoW still has significant technical issues. Most days there is at least one lag spike making the game unplayable for 30-60 seconds. However, the duration and frequency do seem to be decreasing over the 3 months I've played. All in all it has been well worth the $100 for the software and $30 a month I've played.

I remember how 'into' Diablo 2 I got when it first came out several years ago. I remember playing first thing in the morning, then again when I got home. I finally had to just uninstall it, and pull myself together :D I find myself playing a lot more FPS games now, nice and quick, can jump in any time for some quick mayhem. HL2 DM is my favorite now

rather than get into WoW, I just chose to get back into D2. I think it was a good idea, I love that game (and when I get burnt out on it I don't have to worry about how I just wasted a bunch of monthly fees...)

    Cant speak from experience,
    BUT
I have a cyber cafe and people that have WOW accounts come and play here, and they all love it - not really a bad word to say about it.
They consider the monthly fee to be worth it, and looking at it, the graphics are out of this world and the game play seems very intuitive.
You have to be into the Baldurs Gate/ Neverwinter Nights games to really enjoy this one.

Oh my goodness it is worth it.

I have played since release and any technical issues you may hear about I can assure you will be fixed quickly. The patch system is a little annoying if you have a firewall so you may want to check that out before investing or it may take up to 4 hours to patch on a cable/dsl system.

The time issue really can be an issue. I've had to sit down and say okay off by 8 to do homework, then off by 11 for sleep. If I don't set the time limit I'll usually play all night which isn't a good thing when I have school. The game is super addictive so if you have an addictive personality be careful.

    Later,

I play it when I can but I am not one of those that have to play it any chance I get. Many other things take priority over WoW.

Think of the monthly payment as a form of entertainment. 1 new DVD or several trips to the movie theatre will cost more than the monthly cost.
