AOL Looks To Replace AIM With Triton

edited November 2005 in Science & Tech
BetaNews has learned that America Online has begun beta testing the next generation of its AOL Instant Messaging software called "Triton," which will replace the existing AIM client.
Triton addresses user grievances while adding highly anticipated bells and whistles including tabbed messaging and chat logging.

As the first major overhaul to AIM since its inception, Triton introduces an entirely new, simplified user interface that adopts contemporary elements such as tabbed message windows to switch between different modes of communication. Users can also corral all chat sessions into a single, tabbed window dubbed "IM Catcher."

I'm using GAIM and I totally dig it. My only gripe is that it doesn't exactly sync it self with my AIM Mobile contacts like the regular AIM does.

Could somebody please give me instruction on how to set up the spell check to work with GAIM? I'm pretty confused. I tried to find documentation on how to do this but did't find anything conclusive. I installed something called Aspell. At anyrate I'm stuck.

Thanks a lot really for your help.

Boy, it's been a long time... An update to my previous comment, Gaim 1.5 comes bundled with the spell check plugin.

What advantages does Triton have over Gaim? I still have to use AIM (Ad Hack) to send files and direct connect with some folk.

I got triton and its pretty nice, but i got rid of it because it came with aol explorer and there was no other way to get rid of the explorer.. i think. But still triton is awesome. Does anyone think that the logo for triton looks like the AIM guy with a Pumpkin on his head??

YES same here - it started freezing a lot and didn't start up properly. I ditched it, and all the AOL spyware that came with it, and went back to GAIM :)
