Intel Begins To Look At 450 MM Wafers
Intel says it is eyeing 450 mm wafer processes, and it has begun early investigation into transitioning to the more efficient methodology.
Source: GEEK.comFeeling confident about the next process technology roll-out, Intel recently stated that its yield rate ramp with 65 nm silicon technology is ahead of schedule. The first 65 nm products will be available before end of year, with Yonah chips available in volume by early next year. Chipzilla says that, thanks to its advanced 65 nm process, customers will appreciate the enhanced performance of its Yonah dual-core mobile line while still enjoying the same low-power profile of the current Pentium-M offerings. Intel also says it is eyeing 450 mm wafer processes (18-inch wafers), and it has begun early investigation into transitioning to the more efficient methodology. Intel thinks that the transition may occur around 2011 or 2012, perhaps after the introduction of 32 nm-based devices.
