Search Bar Won't Go Away

Hi All,

I downloaded Messenger Plus a few months ago and i have the blue search bar coming up at the bottom of the screen when i use IE.

I have used PestPatrol, Spybot-Searcha dn destroy, microsoft Antispyware, Tracks Eraser Pro, XoftSpy, spyferret, Adaware, hijackthis (although only deleted three things it came up with) and omega killer.

None of which have managed to remove this spyware search bar! :confused:

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Lorna

Just done hijack this-and here is the logfile:

    MissPiggy,

    Hi and welcome to the Short-Media forums :).

    ===============

    We need to remove(uninstall) the 'lop' infection by going to here, then downloading and running the uninstaller(s) that relate to the application(s) your wanting to remove. The following selections are available: "Start page", "Search engine", "Accessories Toolbar".

    After uninstalling any (or all) of the above, let's see if we have anything in "Scheduled Tasks":

    Download, unzip and run ScheduledTasks.bat (courtesy of ddeerrff), and when notepad comes up, post the contents back to this thread.

    ===============

    Uninstall Messenger Plus as it comes bundled with LOP, the infection you currently enjoy :). You can reinstall Messenger Plus without the sponsor.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.vvnckswpayicryymbprua.ne...n/3VZIzjnA.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...www.yahoo.co.uk
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...www.yahoo.co.uk
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...www.yahoo.co.uk

    R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TrayFlap] C:\DOCUME~1\TOTALM~1\APPLIC~1\STOPDE~1\bird does.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [exploer.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\exploer.exe

    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/18b03b1...ip/RdxIE601.cab

    Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to "view system and hidden files/ folders:"

    folder...

    C:\DOCUME~1\TOTALM~1\APPLIC~1\STOPDE~1

    file...
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\exploer.exe Note the spelling.

    -

    Note that some of these folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    ===============

    After rebooting your PC, post back a new log and let me know how everything goes.

    Hi again. Have replied to your PM regarding spywareblaster. After you have fixed the following, reboot and rescan with hijackthis. If that R1 entry has gone, then you are clear. (It is part of the LOP infection). If it is still there you will have to boot into safe mode and fix it. Keep tapping f8 whilst booting and you should get a menu with one option being to boot into safe mode. Pick that one.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.gtvruckzklyso.com/FkR0Zb...n/3VZIzjnA.html

    Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    After rebooting your PC, post back a new log and let me know how everything goes.

    Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

    ===============

    Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

    Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the setup instructions.

    Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

    Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
    Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

    Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

    Download Spywareblaster, from www.javacoolsoftware.com install and keep it updated to help keep your system clean.
    Once you have checked for updates, click the 'enable all protection' link.

    Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others. Go here

    Clear your Temp folders.
    Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
    Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

    Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
    delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

    Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

    Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

    In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    ===============

    If you're having any more problems, post back.

    Happy surfing,

    crunchie.

    Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows and hit the "Fix checked" button.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://hkepjntjssqrvoe.com/FkR0Zbtf...n/3VZIzjnA.html

    When you have done that, update MS Antispyware and do a full scan.

    Reboot when done and post another log please.

    Did you run the uninstaller I supplied the link for?
    With this entry; kuxfyukpcxnxsakjzayros.c...n/3VZIzjnA, it may change but will always make as much sense as talking under water with a mouth full of marbles :).
    Also, it is important that all instances of Internet Explorer be closed before fixing with hijackthis. The fix will not work otherwise.

    Post back if you managed to get the uninstaller to work. Otherwise it's a manual removal again :).

    cant get uninstaller to work, avg antivirus goes mad if it sees it on desktop! then it wont do anything when i click on it. do you want me to get another hijackthis logfile posted here?

    What you should do is disable AVG temporarily in order for the uninstaller to work. The uninstaller is safe to use, I have advised it's use countless times with no problems.
    The reason AVG will be going off is likely the use of the name LOP in the uninstaller.
