Reflashed with wrong BIOS, have old one on HDD, but cannot boot

edited May 2005 in Hardware
OK folks,

Let me explain my full situation as it stands now. My HDD is in RAID 0 config, and this is the issue. Apparently the BIOS I was told to install were for the wrong motherboard...one without on board RAID. As such, this is the root of my problem. I used a program within Windows to reflash the BIOS, and saved a copy of my originals as a .bin file. Now, I have the RAID driver and I can access my hard drive. In fact, I am using Bart PE and I can get into everything on my disks, so the RAID is fine. The problem is that I cannot run the .exe file to reflash the BIOS within Bart PE. I also tried to reflash the BIOS through a DOS utility and I get an error message that says its the wrong BIOS ID. I am really stuck right now, and I am frustrated. I know that I just need to get the proper BIOS on there, but now it seems like it can't be done. Is there any way I can use a floppy or CD to actually boot to Windows from my hard drive? I think the problem is that Bart PE simply cannot run the application to install my old BIOS data. I need to somehow load Windows so I can run this thing. There has got to be someway to do this, since I can load everything off my HDD when I'm in Bart PE or even in the Recovery Console. I just can't run what I need to...

BTW, my mobo is a Gigabye K8N Pro, and I have attempted their suggested QFlash and DOS BIOS reflash procedures. I get that Incorrect BIOS ID error. I'm worried that because I put the wrong BIOS in I cannot change it to another mobo's BIOS.

Any and all help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Mike

If all else fails, you might try getting in touch with Tmod and see if he could reflash it for you. His rates are lower than you'd likely pay to buy a new bios chip from tha manufacturer.

It's risky (though I don't see what you have to lose), but you could also try renaming the "good" bios to the same name as the one that screwed you up. I'd suspect that the DOS flash program will balk at the checksum, but you might get lucky.

    Good luck. :)
