I just got it, played for a couple hours, so far it seems like the standard mmorpg stuff. I played SWG for like 5 months, but they just killed it by releasing n update that completely changed the game. It's really a different game now and I hate it. I got WoW because it gets so much praise all the time, figured it must be good. I'm not impressed so far to be honest, but I have 30 days to decide if I'm gonna like it or not, so we'll see. Can you guys just tell me what I have to look forward to I guess? So far I'm a human warrior, level 5.

WoW is my first MMORPG, and it was really easy for me to get into it. Some people say it's more a beginner's game, and I can't really disagree. Most of the people I meet online say it's their first, or they came from EQ. Go figure.

That said, I think the root of your problem, is that you picked an alliance race -- a warrior at that. In my experience, warriors and paladins are the most boring classes. My first character was a dwarf paladin, then I created an or warlock. I'm not going back to the Alliance any time soon. ;)

Also, most of the really good stuff definitely doesn't come at level 5. I'd give it a little mroe time. That didn't affect me though. The game sucked me in as soon as I fired it up.

Warriors are one of the most boring classes in the game.
The Alliance is the most boring faction in the game; because there's always someone to help you with everything.

The good stuff doesn't come until about level 16-20 with Wailing Caverns or Deadmines.

Each person looks forward to something different in an MMO. I looked forward to new content, new spells, new instances, new quests.. But if none of those things float your boat, the game isn't worth playing.

I will say that it's unlike any other MMO I've played, and I have literally played nearly all of them (EVE, DAoC, Planetside, EverQuest, Anarchy Online, SWG, Earth and Beyond, Ragnarok...); but that's subjective too, I guess. You either get it or you don't.

Guild Wars = Better gameplay + Free online play = Best MMORPG yet.

I find "Free" synonymous with "Bad" or "Doomed to Failure."

Many MMOs have gone free or offered free periods..

Planetside never used to have a free trial. But then it lost 65% of its playerbase in 14 months.. It has a 10 day free trial now.

Anarchy Online is now free.. Only after it operated several million dollars in the red for three months. I don't think the move makes much sense, but I guess they're hoping to attract paying customers.

EverQuest never used to have a free trial, but now it's had six 15 day trial period in the last year as the game lost over half its playing population to WoW.

Free is not necessarily a good thing. It means desperation. Other MMOs do just fine with pay, and are far less likely to wither away in a year's time.

I wouldn't say it means desperation, I'd say the free is just a way to attract more players. I hear so many people complaining about paying for MMORPGs that most companies can look at that and go "See, there is a market for this, lets make a free one." I actually prefer the payable ones as long as it does what it should.

1) I have good servers (I've been lucky in WoW and not really had any probelms)
2) You keep adding content, because after all, thats why I'm paying you more money.

Now I don't know anything about Guild Wars, but there is going to be a point where the money runs out and nothing new is going to happen. They'll run out of their prefabbed content and thats going to be it, the game will have reached its peak and nothing new is going to happen unless a new income source is put in. That will probably happen in the form of expansion packs I guess, so in reality you have to see if it is cheaper in a year than a payable service, which it probably still will be.

I think you should give World of Warcraft more time. The game can be a bit slow in the beggining when you don't have many skills but it picks up. Joining a guild can also add to the fun with a social twist.

Don't give up on your warrior either. I currently play a level 60 Human Warrior and it is a lot of fun. A warrior really starts to shine in the mid to upper levels when you have most of your skills and start tanking for groups. A good tank is as important to a group as a good healer so it is easy to find groups. Warriors can also solo fairly well once you get into the groove of switching stances and knowing when to use certain weapons. The WOW warrior definitly isn't your typical "turn on attack mode and walk away" warrior that is seen in many fantasy MMO games. I must warn you; however, that the warrior is a very gear dependant class. If you are not big on collecting items, or keeping your gear up to date, you might want to roll another character.

The Alliance isn't as bad as Thrax makes it out to be either :P I've never played a horde character past level 6 but the alliance has plenty of challenges. You'll appreciate having the help end game when you need groups the most. Your faction is basically a matter of choice and what you want to play.
