I've been using a pair of 36G raptors for over a year and a half now. I like them, nice and fast, BUT they fill up reall quick. You pretty much have to have a storage drive, as your performance will take a hit once your raptor starts filling up. The new 74G raptors are significantly faster than the first generation drives (like mine). Cost per GB is quite high unfortunatly. I've heard lots of good things about the diamondmax 10s, 16MB cache, NCQ, and high STR.

Raptor's are still the quickest drives.

I have 5 diamond max 10's 250gig. Not as fast as one would expect. Go with 74gig raptors.
