We need to get a look at what's running on your computer in order to help you. Please follow the directions at this link to download a tool called Hijackthis and post a log.

The other day my screen turned blue, no desktop icons, writing that said Security Warning A fatal error in IE has occurred. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c

System cannot function in normal mode
    Please check your security settings

Scan you PC with any available antivirus/spyware remover program to fix the problem.

I ran a few anti-adware and virus scans and the writing away
but I still have blue screen and no icons.
It was suggested that I try to boot in safe mode
    that does not work either.
I have no way of getting to start menu, control panel, display settings.
the only way I can manuver is in Window Task Mgr.

    Here is my HijackThis Log

Please disable Spybot's Teatimer function before you proceed with this fix.
    http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

    Security IGuard
    Virtual Maid
    Search Maid
    Viewpoint Manager
    Viewpoint Media Player

    Exit Add/Remove Programs.

Make sure that you can VIEW ALL HIDDEN FILES.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lzvgca] c:\windows\system32\lzvgca.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsFY] c:\wp.exe

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

    C:\wp.exe
    C:\wp.bmp
    C:\Windows\sites.ini
    C:\Windows\popuper.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
    C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
    c:\windows\system32\lzvgca.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
    C:\Program Files\Search Maid
    C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
    C:\Program Files\Security IGuard
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

Once you have rebooted download the following reg file to your desktop by right clicking on the link, and selecting save as.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg

Once it has downloaded, double-click on the smitfraud.reg file on your desktop and when it asks if you would like to merge the data, click on the Yes button.

Reboot your computer and you should now be able to change your desktop settings back to how you would like it. If your desktop still looks strange, go into your display properties and click on the Themes tab. Change the theme to Windows XP and you will now be using the default Windows XP settings. Then change them as you see fit.

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and let me know of any problems you experienced.

    bejeg,

What user account are you using? I would try starting in SAFE mood with the ADMINISTRATOR account. There is a posibility that the account is corrupted and that is why you cannot login and see anything.

Bottom line... some of these spy/maware things can damage the operating system to the point where it may not be worth fixing...

    Just my 2 cents...

bejeg - What happens if you click Windows E? Does it open up explorer?

If not, check out the Taskbar Repair Tool to see if it can help you.

The problem I am having is that the only access I have to files is through Windows Task Mgr. Scenario:
Window user screen comes up, I click my name to log on, it takes a long time then a blue blank screen comes up. (no desktop icons). Then I press ctl alt delete buttons, this gives me Windows Task Mgr. Then I click on file, newtask, browse (this opens up a box where I can look in all my files, but I cannot do anything else) So I go through the list, I find my server and click on it, and then in my windows task mgr I am able to open it up, and that is how I can post this log.
I have no start menu, I have do display settings, I have no control panel. I do not have access to any of these.
Is there help????? I think Im going on a week now, that I have been dealing with this. All instructions I recieve are telling me to use tools that I have stated that I don't have access to. Is there any other way to fix this problem

Thank you for your assistance in this.

You waited three days to respond to my question and then you still didn't answer it. So I'll assume the answer is "No, nothing happens".

It sounds as if your explorer.exe file is either corrupted or completely gone. If this is the case your best option would be a repair installation of Windows XP.
