Problems running Medieval: Total War

edited May 2005 in Gaming
I have a friend who is having problems, apparently involving the video card and the sound card, running Medieval: Total War. He has installed the latest patch for the game, but the problem seems to involve not having the proper drivers for his 32 MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra and his SoundBlaster with 5.1 support ("though apparently not version 5.1 as the drivers available for that didn't recognize the card as valid"). (That part from my friend.)

Has anyone had similar problems, and might the replacement of the ATI card with an ASUS AGP 64 help?

Thanks very much.

Do you think that would resolve both the sound and video problems (game installs but runs badly)?

    Thank you, son.

umm im pretty sure that upgrading youre video card to something with ATLEAST 128meg's of video ram.like a 6600gt
btu as to not knowing youre complete computer spec's it hard to guess..

As for the sound,if you are using youre on board sound device, well its might be out of date..a sound card such as a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 WILL give you great sound.. :)

If Medievil Total War is anything like Rome Total War, there is a config file that auto detects your graphics card & sets what it thinks is the appropriate resolution & refresh rate. Trying to overide this in the options only screws things up. You have to find the config file & manually edit it.

With a card that old it probably couldn't detect it & so set very low settings, how ever it's not always old cards, it couldn't detect my 6800nu. See this thread for my story. When you put in the newer card it could probably then detect it & set appropriate settings.

Anyways glad you got it sorted.
