X800 vs. X850

I want to splurge a bit :bawling:, so I'm just wondering about the two cards X800XT and the X850XT.

Looking at this link http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/result.asp , these two cards are almost identical. Ive found a X800 for under $400 but all the X850's I find are over 500 and sometimes close to 600. Is it realy worth the extra cash? I know this card will last a good 4-5 years or whenever AGP dies out.

I'm not up to date on my Video cards :shakehead . So any words of advice would be very apreciated! :mullet:

The cards are very similar. X850XT's are simply higher clocked X800's with some additional features like enhanced cooling and better thermal management (GPU consumes much less power when idle). Aside from that the R480 GPU is very similar to R420.

The X800Pro's are only 12 pipes, so be careful, they cannot compare to the 16-pipe X800XT or X850XT models. (Unless you have softmodded a Vivo card :D)..

If you are using AGP, the X800 XT should do well. You'll get a bit more overclocking headroom in the X850, but other than that..

    Thanks lemonlime!

One more question, I have notice two different types of X800XT. One, the regular old X800XT and the second, All-in-Wonder X800XT. I compared the specs on ATI and they are exactly alike. I have found the All-in-Wonders to be cheaper for some reason  . Is there a performance difference between the regular vs the All-in-Wonder?

All-in-Wonder cards have built in TV-Tuners. I'm surprised they are cheaper, as they are usually 20-30% more expensive. Older AIW cards were clocked lower than the 'pro/xt' versions, however I'm not sure if that is still the case.

Looks the same to me! Hey, if you can get an AIW cheaper than a regular card, then that sounds good.

Only con I can see, is increased heat (due to hot tuner modules) and incompatability with many aftermarket GPU-coolers, and water blocks. If you can live with those cons, then go for it

the bit about the water blocks is untrue. I have a 9700pro AIW watercooled and the same block is supposed to work on an X800, so I assume it would fit on the AIW model as well

If you're willing to spend that mucn money into a gaming card you might want to throw the x800xl 512mb into the mix. Just a thought.

That’s a good deal! But I'm just wondering, I've heard Sapphire cards aren't always up to factory ATI specs. Is this just rubbish blabber from the Nvidia/ATI rivalry?

Every Sapphire I've seen is identical, with the exception of a logo/sticker, and perhaps a different color PCB.
