Yes it will work fine. They would be best in differant partitions. Not necessary to make it seperate disks. But I have done it even just in seperate directories on the same partition.

Tex, thank you for your help, I now have my WinXP Pro x32 on my C: 1st partition and my WinXP Pro x64 on C: 2nd partition. I havent run into any problems as of yet and I can select any OS at will. I am running 2 x 120 Maxtor SATA HD's no RAID configuration. The other 120 is partitioned into G: and H: because I had my DVD ROM (E:) and DVD-RW (F:) already installed.
All is well so far and thanx again for your help!

General install problem for dual booting.

    I have ASUS A8V motherboard, AMD x64 3400+
    1 gig memory
    160 gig hard drive, partition 50, 50, 58\
2nd drive of 250 gig unformatted at this time.
I have loaded WinXP 32 successfully on the 1st partition 'c:' drive

I have setup my BIOS to boot from Disk, floppy, than harddrive.
When attempting to install WinXP x64 on the second partition, the BIOS or operating system does not read the CD and ask to Boot from CD, just goes straight onto the WinXP 32 system and starts up.
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks for any help

Tex is 100% right. If your first boot is disk then your computer should not load up your windows 32 bit, which is in your 3rd boot order. The computer is not seeing your Windows 64 bit because it is not on a bootable disk.

    Tex,

Before I loaded the XP32 on this computer, I loaded the x64 on the same computer just fine. But I was told for dual booting purposes, that you have to load the earlier version (WinXP 32bit) before loading the latest version (WinXP x64). So I reformatted the drive, loaded WinXP 32bit, then attempted to load the WinXP x64, it just would not load, it skipped the CD and went straight to the WinXP32 that was already loaded.

Make sure your cdrom drive is set as the first boot device, then watch the bottom of the screen carefully as you restart the computer. You're looking for a message saying "Press any key to boot from CD".

That may or may not help, but sometimes it's the little things... :D

    Hi,

I am running x32 Pro OS

    Hardware Config:

    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    1 Gig Dual channel RAM
    Asus A8N-E mobo
    120GB SATA150 HD

I downloaded x64 from the microsoft website and burned it to a CD.

Is there any way I can at this point, without losing data on my HD, in which I can get a dual boot setup for both x32 and x64.

Please walk me through the necessary steps to do this :D.

    Thank You

I have bought a new machine that has XP 64 pro already on it. It has 2 hard drives. I would like to load XP pro 32 on the other hard drive but apparently my CD is not bootable and when I put the CD in when i am in XP 64, the option to install Windows is dithered out. I did a little bit of digging and found out that this is saying that there is a newer version of Windows already installed. Is there a way to make the CD bootable or force windows to allow me to install anyway? Any help would be greatly appreciated because i don't really want to mess with the factory OS.
