Hi, sorry I have very little idea what I am doing here and have tried to resolve it using the supplier of this new computer, no joy I think they know less than me which ait a lot.

I will post a copy of my registry to you as advised by my buddy.

Main problem, computer shuts down without warning, originally when pressing delete key using MS Word three times. now randomly at any time.

Sorry for my format first time using of your site I probably got the wrong forum as well.

Attached error message at las time of shutdown,

While I'm not too familiar with HJT logs I am familiar with hardware issues, have you tried running a utility with logging enabled that will report your; A. Temperatures, B. Voltages and C. CPU load while your system is up and running?

Generally when a PC starts shutting down with no warning I tend to suspect the PSU first, then the RAM (but normally RAM issues will be accompanied with BSOD's and or critical stops) and finally the CPU overheating.

If it's a spyware/malware/virus related issue you'll usually notice that when the PC is running it runs slowly, is jumpy and generally buggy during normal operation and if that's not the case I'd discount it at first and look deeper into the hardware side of things.

Can you post the specs of your PC? The make and model of the motherboard, the size in MB per stick, number of sticks and speed of the ram, the model and core type of CPU (for example 3.2ghz sckt 478 Prescott or 3200+ sckt 754 Clawhammer, ETC),
The types of drives both optical (CDRW, DVD-ROM, DVD-+RW) and hard drives (capacity, rpm) and number of each drive in the system, video card make and model and if it's an SLI setup with 2 cards, add-in cards such as modems, sound cards, ETC, number and size of fans, type of heatsink fan unit on the CPU, any lighting like CCFL's, LED's, ETC, the brand and rating of the PSU (power supply unit).

If there's anything else in your PC that I didn't touch upon make sure to include it as well, everything adds up in a PC and no matter how insignificant it may seem anything can cause a PC to shutdown.

    Cheers and welcome to Short-Media.

If you do not mind leave this with me for a while, I remember when going through the specs of the computer, when I first bought it, that you could set up alarms and shutdowns on temperture. It will take me time to look at these things, if I can find them myself again, but I will. I will get back to you, thanks for the reminder, believe me I have forgotten more than I have learnt.

Mike, take all the time you need, we'll be here when you need us. Just don't take too long if it's indeed a bad PSU as they can kill everything connected to them when they die sometimes.

Sorry for the delay, I am an electrical engineer who reckons he knows all about supplies.
I have checked times of shutdown, temperatures at shutdown methods of shutdown.
I have changed my multi point power supply.
I have monitored the input supply.
I have given extra cooling to the computer.
I have been on the net for 2 hours with no problems and used other programmes with so far no problems.
My problems seem to start when I use MS Word 2003 for any length of time, shutdown.

    eg

    18.25 Shutdown and start up.
19.07 Screen off, keyboard dead, computer still running.
    19.31 Shutdown and Start up.
    19.39 Shutdown and Start up.

I am trying to find out why my MS Office system appears to be shutting down my computer at the moment rather than the supply board. I remember many years ago the same thing happened to me with Office 98 when I put settings it offered me into it that the software at the time could not handle, shutdown.

Of course I may be completely wrong because I have missed a fundamental principal of power supplies and I know how easy that is. I have no idea of the operating principles of those boards. No drawings and no manual.

Can they when they are failing switch of parts of the mannual operating system or is that operated from the software? I cannot understand why I have a full shutdown and start up and then a keyboard with screen shutdown with the computer remaining on. obviously requiring the main power supply to be recycled back to on.

I think I have a major problem between my MS Office software and power supplies software if that is possible.

Honesty I am an idiot where these things are concerned but it is my best guess a the moment.

Tell me what you think please.

Could be a possible virus/spyware issue. Post a HiJack This log in the SVT forum for review. Before running scan and saving the log make sure all hidden files are viewable:

    Open my computer>click tools>click folder options>
click view tab>check show hidden files>uncheck hide file extensions>
    click apply>click OK>exit

Thanks for the interest, I think I have 93% resolved the problem. I bought completely illegal software, which is rife out here in South East Asia, reformated my hard drive and downloaded the illegal stuff. My computer worked perfectly for the 30 days that I was given by MS Windows to register. I took the computer back to the retailer where I purchased it from and told him that his original programs must be corrupt and he should download the legal software that he assured me was on my system. Not a chance. He has made sure that I do not have to register any of my programs but they are still not working 100%. I am working on the minor problems that I now have. Wouldn't it be nice if I could contact all software retailers and tell them this, hopefully they would update and make my software legal and properly up date for a small fee.
