i have an amd xp 1800+ that needs a good home...came from a dead viakm266 compaq that was neglected by a family friend. will be mating it with 1gb pc3200, 9600pro, 40gb, antec 380w true power, etc...

i have been looking around newegg and the rest, but can't really decide. i want to keep it as cheap as possible but have some overclocking potential so i don't have to under-clock my ram too much. i know the nf7s v2.0 is the cream of the crop, but i don't really want to shell out $80 for it. Anybody try the viakt880 chipset? Here's what i am thinking about.

NF7-S is a good board (as I recall) for both OC and stability. Dunno if there's a difference between S2 and S v2.0.

supposedly the s2 is the castrated version of the s v2.0---with no multi adjustment and less tweaking options. but is it really worth $20 extra bucks to get the better board? If i had an awesome overclocking chip like a mobile xp i would say absolutely....but with a regular old xp1800+......who knows?

My old XP 1800+ made it from 1.53 to around 2GHz with a good HS and quiet fan, if that helps.

so you took it from 133fsb to ?

also what's the multiplier on an xp1800+? haven't had this chip up and running yet....

Well 1533/133 = 11.5, the default multiplier. My FSB was above 166 but I think I played with the multi too.
