alright so I'm running FFDShow build 2005-03-03, which apparently is the last stable one. I'm trying to set it up to be my all-inclusive decoder center, since FFDshow is the ****. I finally got it working on H.264 files, and then I go to watch the high-def serenity trailer off the www.apple.com/trailers website only to find that since the file is .Mov that FFDshow doesn't automatically open, instead it goes and tries to use the quicktime alternative. is there any way to convert this file to an avi without re-encoding? does anyone have any better ideas?

As far as I am aware, Apple's implementation of H.264 isn't pure H.264 like the XViD/DiVX will be. I'm not sure if FFDShow can properly decode it, but you might reassign the .MOV extension to Windows Media Player. If it's going to work, FFDS would allow you to watch the trailer in WMP.

As for transcoding MOV to AVI, no, it's not possible.
