My main computer it temporarily down for a few more days and I had some files on the desktop of that computer. I had a password to get into the username. Now I took the drive out and added it to my second computer to try and get the files off but it says access denied. Does anyone know away around this? I can't seem to find a way to enter the password so it doesn't seem like I am going to have much luck.

So you took the drive out and made it the D: drive of another computer? Are you trying the path of D:\documents and settings\[username]\desktop\ ? On the second computer, is the account you're logged in to an administrator account or is it a regular user account? If it is an administrator account it should let you have access unless you were using file encryption (which you probably weren't).

    D drive YES
    D:\documents and settings\[username]\desktop\ YES
admininstrator account on computer in use YES
administrator account on drive with files YES
File Encryption I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT, I CAN'T REMEMBER EVER ENABLING IT

Basically it shows in the D:\documents and settings directory username1, username2, and all users. I have access to username 2 and all users, but not to username1 and it also shows username1 as being empty and being 0bytes. I had this password protected and no more, and it was the admin account.

Try creating an account on the new machine with the same username and password as what was on your old machine and see if it lets you navigate to those directories you're trying to get to without a password. If that doesn't work we'll try another route.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and then trying to access the files. It may let you through the password protection, so long as you are signed in as administrator??

    just a thought !
