i've got my pc, and a new web server that I just built. I have DSL, so i have the speedstream dsl router, and then a Belkin 8-port network switch. Each of the computers are coming out of the network switch. I cannot get the computers to both be connected to the internet at the same time! I've been fooling with the ipconfig renew and release, TCP/IP settings, and static and auto assign, for almost 3hours. I am to the point of throwing something! Please help!!!!

does your DSL modem have a router built in?? I only ask cause you said you have a "speedstream DSL router" and I'm wondering if its just a speedstream DSL modem or are you saying you have a seperate router? I may have read it wrong but it seemed to me like you didnt have anything in there to implement a NAT cause in that case your DSL modem only has a single IP that you can't share with just a network switch

its a speedstream dsl modem (model 5100) http://www.chipweb.de/dsl/index.php?menu=2&id2=77 . Its just the standard dsl modem that came with my dsl package. It only has one ethernet output. I'm wondering if a 2wire dsl modem/router like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62027&item=5776785267&rd=1 would fix my problem. A while back I tried connecting a D-Link wireless router to my speedstream dsl modem, and there were always connection problems with the dsl router not being able to communicate with the computers.

also to answer your question, im not sure but i dont think the speedstream has a router built in. It very well might be the reason I'm having these IP conflicts.

yeah, it looks to me like that router will solve your problems, cause that's what you'll need to share your connection across two or more computers
