Problem with Belkin 54g PCMCIA adaptor

just wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem I'm having..... I blagged a notebook from work (a compaq evo n200) and installed my wireless adaptor in it, it worked fine...... but then I decided to wipe the machine and reinstall windows. Now the wireless card won't install at all, it just stalls at 89% every time. Through google I found someone else on a forum who had the exact same problem, and he had just reinstalled windows as well, but he didn't manage to resolve it. I've contacted Belkin Tech support through their e-mail, but not had a reply yet. Can anyone help?

You did install the drivers before you put the card in, right?
You have tried older drivers, right?

Those are the first two options.

Yup, tried to installed drivers before I put the card in.

Nope, from what I can tell there's only one set of drivers available, the ones on the website are the same as the ones on the disk that came with the card.

have you tryed it in safe mode

    also try redownloading the drivers

In safe mode it bombs out with the error 'unable to run install shield scripting'

tried re-downloading several times, still no go

have some more info though, got error code 1628 which according to the belkin knowledge base is this error:

An InstallScript MSI project has two features with the same name but defined in different cases. For example, DefaultFeature and defaultfeature. In this scenario, iDriver.exe is not cleaned up at the end of the installation, and the uninstallation log file becomes corrupted.

    which can be resolved by:
    1. Use the Windows Task Manager to end the iDriver.exe process.

Acces the Task Manager by right-clicking your mouse button on a blank area of the taskbar, and then clicking Task Manager. Click the Processes Tab. Right-click the iDriver.exe process and select End Process.

    2. Delete the .ilg (uninstallation log) file from the InstallShield Installation Information{Product Code} directory. If you do not know your project's Product Code, it can be found under the General Information > Product Properties view in the InstallShield Development Environment (IDE).

however, running a search for *.ilg returns no entries so I'm not entirely sure how to follow these instructions.

Okay, managed to get this problem sorted and though I'd post the fix here for anyone who has trouble with this card in future.

Here's what the problem was, at 89% the installation is supposed to pause, ask you to insert the card and then run the found new hardware wizard. What was happening in this case was that it didn't ask me to insert the card, the add new hardware wizard would pop up and then disappear again after about 2 seconds without me selecting an option and clicking next. The fix is speed, you have to position your mouse cursor over where you know the box will pop up and be ready to select 'not this time' and then hit next before the window has a chance to disappear again. This can be problematic using a stupid laptop touch screen thing but after 2 attempts I got it. After running through the add new hardware wizard (still without inserting the card) the rest of the installation works flawlessly.
