    hello,

thank you for your help, i have done what you suggested and everything seems ok now. i have also run a scan of the computer and AVG has not found any virus this time.
Thank you so much! You have been of great help!

this is the Hijackthis log after i followed your instructions.
i hope you can give me good news that there are no more viruses.
also can you advise me what firewall i should install on my computer for better protection, because as far as i could see (although i am not a computer specialist like you) the virus i had was internet searching related?

thanks again for all your help,
    maria

    Hi mary25

Glad to hear all seems to be well with you now. There is nothing in the log that worries me overmuch.

As to a firewall, I, personally would recommend either AVG Free from Grisoft [http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1; scroll down to foot of page for download] or Sygate personal [http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm; lower part of page has download]. Both are free for peersonal use. These free firewalls are OK for one stand alone PC but, if you are thinking of networking between, say, two PCs at home, they unlikely to co-operate.
