FReq. doesnt match the jumpers

edited May 2005 in Hardware
I have this old mobo and it uses jumpers for the Freq. It's suppose to be 1-2 2-3 for 133 or something light that, and 1-2 1-2 is for 100mhz, 2-3 2-3 is for 200mhz. I put it on 1-2 1-2 and it runs at 1900+. I put it on 1-2 2-3 and it shows 2500+ which is what I have but when I have it on there the PC will just automatically shut down right when the Welcome screen shows. EVeytime. I think this was the cause of my problem when the PC would shut off randomly. Does anyone know why it wont let me run it on 2500+ could there be something wrong with the CPU?

    what is the motherboard

if it is old it might not support the CPU with out a bios update

or it might not support the CPU at all

when I tried installing office Xp it just shut the PC down the same way. I would have to pull the plug until the light in the front goes off, then i plug it back on.

    Edit

I tried the lowest at 1100Mhz and it installed To much load?

Check CAS and CAS\RAS ratios, also cleanliness of sockets for RAM. Consider MORE RAM also (say total of a GIG to 2 GIG for gaming a lot). Suggesting strongly, not demanding.

    try running memtest on it

the board might not like the RAM

that chipset is tempermental with RAM

    if I remenber correctly

also try relaxing the timing on the RAM

don't forget to update the bios to the latest, if you have not already done so
