Distributing a file via BitTorrent

some of you may know that I used to be big into digital video and posting some videos online. I'm going to be doing some more digital video stuff in the near future and I'd like to be able distibute the files using bittorrent. I use bittorrent occassionally to download some videos from different webshows and things like that but I've never used it to distribute files.
Is it possible for me to upload a video file to my webserver and then use bittorrent to ease the load so that all the files aren't being pulled directly off the server via HTTP ?
Consider me a total newb when it comes to setting up a bittorrent download, I have 0 knowledge of how to do it. Perhaps someone knows a guide or something they could point me in the direction of??
