Good Router Gone Bad?

I've got a Belkin 54g wireless router that has worked like a charm for almost 2 years. It's been moved, reconfigured, abused?, and always worked so well I never thought about it. Yesterday, it simply stopped functioning properly. On start up, everything seems to cycle normally but the WAN light blinks green & inernet connectivity is zero. This goes for the 4 ports as well as the wireless. Power Cycling & Reset have no apparent effect.

I have no experience troubleshooting routers, never had a problem. I have no clue what is wrong, or if it is common for routers to simply "crap out" at 2 years.

The router connects to a RCA cable modem. I plug directly into the modem, everything works fine, with any combination of computer & cabling. The inverse is true if the router is in the loop, none of the computer/cable combinations work.

Is the Router simply dead? Does anyone see a potential fix? Should I just give up & shop for a new Router?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions,

might be the cable modem since the wan light is blinking. or you set it to pppoe in the settings.

You don't read very well, do you Grayfox?

Which means it isn't the modem, and he didn't change a setting.

As for the problem itself, it's possible that it just finally went on you. I think you may have done it, but have you done a hard reset on the router's firmware?

I didn't change any settitngs intentionally. As I said the modem seems fine, I'm using it now. I've never had problems, so I'm not sure how to check the settings. pppoe = bad, tcp/ip = good for a 2-3 computer home network right?

PS If I go new, any brands superior? Anyone to avoid? I'm looking at netgear & hawking (because they're on sale). I spent about $60 on this Belkin & never had a complaint before. I've heard that routers are fairly gereric from one manufacturer to another.

    Thanks,

Yep, Thrax, reset with power on/off, cables hooked/unhooked, If I stare at the lights they seem to almost synchronize, then WAN changes to a steady blink. I'm about ready to give up on the silly thing, wondering if I'll be able to use it as a hub or something.

Looking around I'm seeing claims of 108Mb/Second. Is that for real? I had a 54g, usually got around 18. The rest of my net runs at 100, but I can live without the last 8Mb. Here's an example:

if the WAN light is blinking it just means that there is activity because it is hooked up to the cable/dsl modem, it's like a ping i guess you could say just making sure it has connectivity.

    If so its toast :(

I would recomend the netgear or a linksys.
