Motherboard, Memory, or Software? Mystery

I have an ASUS PTGD1-LA motherboard. I was having problems booting and discovered I can't boot if I put memory sticks in the second pair of slots. Usually, it's dual channel A1 and B1 on the left A2 and B2 on the right. I have 3 pair of sticks; 256Mb, 512Mb, and 1024Mb. These, or any combination of these seem to work just fine if placed in the left side slots. If I put anything in the right side it won't boot.

A single pair of sticks is supposed to be one in each set. No boot. If I take out the stick on the right - computer boots on the single. The memory must be OK or it wouldn't boot. I'm hoping its some sort of software configuration issue.

Any ideas?

Jeff

Sounds like you have dead DIMM slots.

Can they be replaced? Everything else works fine.
