Need some help with a log file please.

I keep getting pop ups and the log file seems to be showing at least a few probs so if anyone could tell me which files to delete from the log I would greatly appriciate the help.

    Hi

First, print this out for ease of reference whilst going through the fixes.
You have several problems in your log but one thing at a time. This may take more than one sweep to fix everything.

Download CleanUp! by going here. Do not run it yet.

    1. Download ewido security suite install, update and run it.
    2. You may need to manually update the definitions which you can get HERE

    Reboot

go to Start > Run and type Services.msc > click OK

Scroll down and find the service called System Startup Service

    double-click on it

    click the Stop button

change the Startup Type to Disabled

click Apply and then Ok and close any open windows

    run hijackthis...

    click "Open Misc Tools Section"

    click "delete an NT service"

    enter SvcProc

    click OK

    close hijackthis

Reboot the PC into safe mode<<< Click Here for instructions

Scan with HJT and put a check/tick mark against the following entries if they are still present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
    O23 - Service: System Startup Service - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

NOTE >>> You have this entry in your Trusted Zone:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com

Personally, I would never allow anything into that Zone but the choice is yours. if you DON'T want it then add it to the list of those entries to be fixed wth HijackThis.

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers, before clicking “Fix checked”.

Navigate to the following and delete these “.exe” and ".dll" files if they are still there. Do not delete the whole folders; just the .exe/.dll files if found………..

    C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Finally, reboot your System in normal mode.
Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log. We’ll move on from there.

First I would like to say thank you very much for helping me with this. Secondly here is the new log. A few entries stand out for me and they are the 015 trusted zone which would not delete no matter what and ewido keeps picking up the file axendw30104lib.dll as infected with trojandownloader.lastad.h and no matter what won't delete it and on boot up it keeps detecting the file numerous times and won't delete. So should I am suspicious of the O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [axe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\axe.exe entry and the O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k entry as well. Thanks again and let me know where you think I should go next.

OK. Looking better but, as I suspected, another sweep is needed.

First, you are using a slightly out of date version of HJT. The latest is v.1.99.1 so please get that as it would be best to use it in future scans from here on in.

Second, You have SP1 and I think it would be wise for you to instal SP2 as it has several extra protection fetaures. If you don't want the SP2 Windows Firewall (many people don't) then it can be easliy disabled in favour of a third party firewall such as Zone Alarm or Sygate (both free for personal use).

That "04...axe" entry is bad (we'll fix it below) but the other one is fine. It's used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out.

Ewido should have done most of the work eliminating that Trojan but what we do now will help more.

015 entries don't always go with HJT. Often stronger tools are needed to do the job thoroughly. To ensure the 015 Trusted Zone entry is removed completely download Hoster and run it. Choose the 'Restore Original Hosts' button and press OK.

Download CleanUp!here. Do not run it yet.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (by repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Open HijackThis and click on Scan. Check the following entries IF they are present (make sure you do not miss any)

    O2 - BHO: WinStat - {F007E221-018D-4baf-924A-B0E9092F3853} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat11.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [axe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\axe.exe

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers, before clicking ”Fix checked”.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED if they still exist:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat11.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\axe.exe

Reboot your System in normal mode.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Rescan with the new version of HJT and post a fresh log with more updates on how the computer is behaving.

The link to the hoster download is down is there another place to dl it?

    thanks
  • edited June 2005
    Sorry about that.

Add this instruction in place of the Hoster download, that is, just before the CleanUp! download instruction............

Right click on this link http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop.

Next add this instruction immediately before you proceed to "Reboot your System in normal mode" after the file deletions (towards the end of the fix)............

Right click on the "DelO15Domains.inf" file (you saved that to your desktop) and choose "Install". It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

Please ensure you insert these revised instructions in the exact places in the overall fixing procedure.

Forgot to mention when I went to delete the winstat11.dll file I did not find one but I did find three interesting files. winstat10.dll, winstat10.dat, and winstat 11.dat. Should I be concerned with any of these?

Log looks much better now but you don't say how your computer's behaving . Please let me know.

In your post #8 you mention three files possibly related to the winstat CreatrixMedia/neededware Hijacker.

    >>winstat10.dll….this is the same hijacker...follow the usual process....reboot to safe mode....do a full system-wide search for "winstat10.dll" and delete all instances if it (if there's more than one).

    winstat10.dat
    winstat 11.dat
    >> these too could be related to the hijacker but I would check first. Submit the files (one at a time) here.....

    http://virusscan.jotti.org/

...and post the results to this thread.

You will see what jotti finds. The results are easy to read and understand. If either/both are infected with anything you can boot to safemode again, do system scans for them and delete the files, as you’ve done before.

Lastly, do free on-line scans at Panda Activescan and Housecall. Housecall has now been upgraded to beta version 6.0 which detects and removes any viruses and spyware that it finds. Make sure they both perform a full system scans.

If all is then running smoothly there's no need to post any more HJT logs. I'd like to see the two jotti file reports though.

Just let me know how the computer is working and I recommend you add both online scans to your "favourites". Use them frequently to help keep your system clean.

    All the best.

Comp is running better than ever and I will do those scans that you said to do.

    thanks for everything

Well done. That was a lot of work but you got through it fine. As I said in my last post I suggest you make a note to do those scans at least once a week.

    Glad I could help.

    All the best.
