problems over clocking- given up

hi i am trying to overclock my amd 64 winchester 3000+

yes i have read few guides and have a basic idea what to do . but as soon as i has raise or drop my mutiplier just a notch or increase the htt a notch . my system hangs . just trying the basic stuff but without success.

all the settings are at default and i am running at 1808mhz.

specs

k9nsnxp-939 F8 bios
amd 64 3000

htt- 200
multi - 9
tech-90nm
volts- 1.40

Novice in need of help . anyone any ideas ?

    i have geil ddr400 512mb (2 256mb ) dual channel . could the sort of memory have something to do with it ?

    That memory should be fine as I use Geil DDR400 aswell.

    Have you tried upping the vcore slightly and then upping the multi a notch?
