Anyone else w/ NF4 mobo and ALC850 tried this!

When I got my NF4 board I installed the full Nvidia driver pack and didn't install the Realtek drivers. Then I remembered the Realtek drivers and installed them. Much to my amazement I thought the sound was much worse and it even sucked compared to just running the Nvidia drivers so I remove all the Realtek drivers and software. I recently tried it again and the same deal. Right now when I look at the Device Manager it shows as "Nvidia nforce Sound Device". I have compared it to the NF7-S "Soundstorm" on the other machine I have and swear it sounds better!

I never loaded the Realtek drivers, I used the updated driver pack from Asus' website and everything worked without any conflicts in device mgr so I went along with my life! I never looked back! I think I noticed on the box or in the manual something about Realtek but never really paid any attention to it as everything worked flawlessly. Ignorance must, in my case anyway, be bliss!!

    mtgoat,
I went with you and other S-Mers' earlier advice and picked up a DFI Lan Party NForce4 SLI-DR with an A64 3700+ 1MB 90nm Rev. E San Diego. Besides the above, what chipset drivers have been working well for you (Sound, LAN), etc...)? And do you have any install tips or recommendations specific to DFI boards?

I've built about 10 of my own systems now, but this is my first DFI product. Thanks.

    Preacher,

I am running the 3/10 bios and stock drivers off the disc with great results. While my old Antec True 480 worked well, even modestly overclocked I did much better after switching to the Antec 550 EPS12V. Per my usual routine I installed XP @ stock speed and didn't OC till after all drivers, etc were in and I was certain all was stable. Even though I'm not usuin SLI I am still using the molex on the board in addition to the atx and 4 pin plugs. Memory in slots 2 and 4 (closest to the socket and 2 slots away). As usual cooland quiet and all the obvious bios settings diabled. Are you having any problems in particular?

Thank you....No, no problems, because I just ordered the board. I plan on putting it together next weekend. I've got a PC P&C 510 SLI so I shouldn't have any PSU issues. I also follow the same method of installing everything at default speed and settings. Once I have a stable system, then I start adding the speed and volts. I do plan on using SLI for two eVGA 6800GTs.

Could I impose upon you for some BIOS settings or pics? Is there a good website you've used for DFI specific questions?

First of all the paper manual is less than crap so just use it for firestarter. Then put the CD in another rig and manually open it as "Autoplay" won't work as it won't recognise the board in the other machine. That will help explain a lot. In the mean time go to Xtremesystems and there is more reading than you can digest in a weekend. And I also highly recomend DFI Street.

Lol! Thanks, goat. I think I'll ritualistically use the manual to start my first Maine winter fire.
