Need a Laptop

Yep, it's another 'I need a laptop' thread. I've been looking through a lot of places and just can't seem to decide or find exactly what I want.

My Criteria:

High Quality, needs to last me a long time.
  • Centrino (I think?)
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 15+" of screen pwnage
  • DVD ROM or better
  • Dedicated video would be nice, but not needed
  • Good battery life
  • Around $1500, hopefully.

I've looked at several of the notebooks at www.powernotebooks.com and like what I see. I like this laptop from Acer and it seems like a lot of people like it.

I would like your opinion on good brands and good models. Please make suggestions. I'm going to be really flexible with my criteria, so any and all suggestions are appreciated.

    This past January, I purchaced a Compaq Presario R3000 for $1300.

    AMD 64 3000+
    512 MB of RAM
    GeForce 440 Go
    Built-in Wireless
    15" Wide screen
    about a 3 hour battery.

    I can play BattleField 1942: Desert Combat with most of the display settings at the mid to high levels. I play Rome Total War at full without problems.

    Only down side... its a bit heavy. Oh, one more good thing... it folds like a monster. :thumbsup:

    Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into one like that.

    I've always been a loyal AMD fan.. but Intel makes a nice mobile processor :eek:

    maybe look into a Dell.. I'll look right now

    My sister got a Dell Inspiron 6000 for graduation- Its pretty nice, but not for gaming.
