little help with norton

im trying to install norton on my computer because i have been haveing a craptacular time with spyware and virus's. BUT i need my phone registration key? can anyone tell me what the hell that is?

    When you install Norton, it tries to auto-activate the software over the Internet. If it cannot do that, then it gives you a code and a phone number. Call the number, give them the code. They will give you a new code, the phone registration key. This activates your software.
