My RAID array won't shut up!

With regard to 'SYSTEM 1' (see sig), my RAID array disks won't shut up! They refuse to stop accessing at a couple of second intervals, nothing full on, but just little ticks (access ticks, not hard drive bye bye ticks). I know this is considered quite a common problem, but I can't figure out how to stop it.

I've tried turning off system restore, ditching the page file, disabling all 3rd party apps and even running it in safe mode, to no avail.

It is annoying the hell out of me, these little access ticks, and tocks every few seconds.

Any ideas people?

    Spinner,

Are you folding on this machine? Folding is always writing back to the drive. Just a thought.

Spyware, nope just sweeped for that, and as for folding, well I thought of that aswell sadly, and turning it off made no difference. It's a puzzler.

    better ear plugs?
    more seditives?

I have a drive on a raid controler that does the same thing. Now that I am running bigger fans it doesn't bother me.
    Uh, did you say something?

Yeah well that's the thing. My new rig, believe it or not, is almost completely silent, the hard drives are the only things you can really hear. That was one of my aims when building this particular rig, to make it really really quiet. It seems though, that in doing so, I'm being irratated by a quiet but audible hard drive access chirp.

The odd thing is, my other rig, running a similar 2 disk array, with two WD1200JB's on a Highpoint controller, doesn't make a sound when it's not supposed to.
