computer password before windows starts

edited June 2005 in Science & Tech
Hello everyone,

i would like to install a password in bios that my computer can verify before Windows starts . I have tried to set a password in bios on "user password" and it does work but only if i want to change CMOS/BIOS settings.
it does not stop me from logging on to Windows in any way.
i do not want to set up a Windows password because that is very easy to pass by; it has no effect.

Can anyone help me ?

thanks,
maria

Most BIOS' that allow a password have a second setting that allows you to select whether the password is required on Setup (entering the BIOS) or SYSTEM (sometimes also called BOOT.) Change that setting, and you will need the password everytime you boot.

However, be aware that this password is also easily gotten around, by flashing the BIOS from a bootable floppy disc or CD.
