133 DIMM in 100 DIMM Slots?

I have some old DIMM memory that my brother wants to use in his computer. He has a Compaq 5100 and he thinks the memory is PC100. The sticks I have are PC133. I told him that I thought they should work, but they would run at 100MHz.

Am I correct, or am I making an assupmtion that might trip us up?

    depends on the board i think, most likely it will work, but some board can be very picky about memory, just try it, it
    s not gonna hurt.

    I agree with Leishi... should work. Annother posible problem is the amount of memory that his PC can handle... may only handle 512 or 768...

    Typically when using faster ram in older systems, it comes down to the density of the newer ram. Many older boards will run fine with PC133, but usually it has to be lower density double sided dimms as opposed to the cheaper high density single sided dimms.

    That is what I did with my compaq and it works fine.It had 1 128 mb pc100 and I added 2 128mb pc133.leishi85 is rite just try it it wont hurt anything
