As part of its monthly patching cycle, Microsoft plans to release 10 new security updates for flaws in Windows and other programs this coming Tuesday.

Seven security bulletins and fixes apply to the Windows operating system, and at least one of those is deemed "critical," Microsoft's highest risk rating, the company said in a notice posted to its Web site on Thursday. The Exchange e-mail server will get one bulletin, rated "important," the company said.

The remaining two alerts are of "moderate" risk and affect Windows Services for Unix, ISA Server and Small Business Server, Microsoft said. Services for Unix includes tools to integrate Windows with Unix and Linux environments, while ISA Server is a firewall and Web caching product.

WSUS automatically installed these updates on my server and it was forced rebooted by the update! :(

Took my VMware network with it

I've noticed a few of my machines which are set to auto install reboot without being prompted, I think it's designed to do that with certain update category's. The best way to stop it happening is to just set AU to download updates but not install them.

It shouldn't force reboot when the updates are installed manually though, unless of course something really messed up is happening.

I never have AU set to auto install just incase it does, like it did for you, reboot all by itself.

The only thing in favour of us hands on freaks setting everything to auto is that when a system auto reboots after installing updates, you get to see that cute little blue shield on the task bar. ;) I love that little thing.
