OSX x86 already leaked?

FormFactorFormFactor At the core of forgotten
edited June 2005 in Science & Tech
According to this article OSX for x86 machines has already been leaked to the web, and is being pirated.

Any truth to this?

Based on the research I have done this is definately fake.

This was on Slashdot the other day too.

Yeah, I agree. At least, for my bit of searching the corners of the internet didn't turn it up. But I definitely agree that it'll be out there very soon, just not yet.

I've seen a couple of sources confirm that the release was a fake. Even if somebody did leak an actual copy, who cares? it'll run like crap, it's a pre-beta, and good luck finding driver support.

The one thing I agree with in the article is that if it were to spread around on the internet, it would be a purposeful move by Apple to get people to try it. It's been kept secret for years, I don't think there'd be an unintentional leak now.

Speak for yourself. I'd sure as hell get it. First, it doesn't need to support everything. So long as it supports a hard drive, I'm fine. I wouldn't use it as my main OS, and I'm not even sure if I will if/when it's available to standard PCs (which I keep hearing it isn't... but someone will reverse engineer it).

It's easy for YOU to say, since you have it already. But we don't, can't. The fact that he had it running on a standard P4, and has been for years, is awesome. Personally, I hope Apple changes their mind and takes on the standard PC market. Aside from, maybe, 10 or so programs, most of which probably have an OSX equivalent, I'd be willing to at least give it a shot as my main OS.

Some people at my college distributed the new x86 OS X over the school p2p network. 400 megs of *oatse.cx. Luckily I found out about it secondhand so I was spared the horror.

And the best part, my girlfriend walked in as I was booting it in my lappy so for a moment she was pretty freaked out.

Do a search for *oatse on Wikipedia. It'll turn up more than you ever wanted to know.
