How to change DVD-ROM for Toshiba laptop?

can it be done or its not advisable to do it yourself?

    It is usually pretty easy to do (they are usually modular drives.) The key is to find one that is compatible with your particular model. Ebay is a good starting place. But, remember, you're going to spend a lot more money on a laptop drive than you would on a comparable desktop drive (don't be surprised to spend $40 for a 2X DVD-ROM or $100+ for a DVD burner)
