I need help in removing Home Search Assistant, Search Extender, etc.
I've been trying for quite some time now to get rid of these programs by following your removal guide. I'm able to download and run HSRemove.exe without trouble. But when I downloaded HijackThis and attempted to extract the files into a separate folder, my McAfee virus scan detected a virus (W32/Generic.worm!p2p) and deleted the file. I tried downloading the program again and extracting the files; it told me it was invalid and there were no files to extract. I got the same message with about:Buster.
From this point, I have no idea what to do about removing these programs. If anybody knows what I'm doing wrong/what the problem is, I'd really appreciate the help.

Sorry to hear your troubles.
It is important we can have a look at your HJT log to see what's going on. As you can't download it yourself how about downloading it to another PC (maybe get a friend to download it for you), take it to your PC on a floppy disk (it will fit) and run it from the A drive? You should get a report you can post to us here for review.
