System clean-up

Hey there everyone! I read these forums anytime I have a Spyware problem, and I think you are all AMAZING!

Anyways, I had a problem on my computer quite a while ago due to excessive porn-downloading by someone in my house. Since then, I've had constant pop-ups, browser redirects, mystery registry entries, etc. However, I was way too busy to spend a lot of time cleaning up my system, so I would just delete what I found and hope it wouldn't come back.

Well, now I am knocked-up and unemployed, so I have plenty of time to get my computer back to normal. And, I hope you can help! Most frequently I've had pop-ups from trafficmp.com (mostly coming off of espn.com) and some search assistants (I think that's what they're called, though I may be wrong). I've run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Yahoo! Anti-spy, and Spy-subtract, none of which ever seems to find any problems. So, I hope I can get some help here!

Download ewido security suite and save the setup file to your desktop:

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Run the setup file for ewido. Update ewido security with the latest signatures and exit this for now.

Be sure you have the latest program update for both Ad-Aware se(1.06) and Spybot S&D (1.4).

If not then you can get them here:

    http://majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware_SE_Personal_d506.html
    http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_d2471.html

Run the setup files for each. Update each program with the latest definitions. Exit these for now.

Boot up in safe mode. To do this, tap f8 at the start up screen and select safe mode from the menu.

Run a Full Scan with Ad-Aware se and Spybot S&D. Remove all indications found.

Reboot into normal mode and run a scan with ewido security suite. Open ewido and click scanner then start.

Post a new log when finished.

Did everything, including showing hidden files and extensions (which I thought I had before, but I missed one of the 2 check boxes...sorry!).

Edit: I should have added that I did all of the scans (except HJT) with my internet disconnected. I don't know if this makes a difference or anything.

Your log is clean. Are you having any problems?
  • edited June 2005
Somehow, pop ups from trafficmp.com are still getting through my pop-up blockers when browsing in Internet Explorer (that's why I use Firefox, but, my husband is stubborn and isn't comfortable using anything but IE).

Otherwise, everything seems good. Thanks! :)

I'm not sure exactly what this is but let's remove it for now and if it's a program you use then you can reinstall it later.

Let's go ahead and remove this entry as well:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {67B50696-04BA-48ea-A697-28AA0EAA9C26} - file://C:\Program Files\MyPoints_PointAlert\Sy800\Tp800\scri800a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

    Delete this directory:
    C:\Program Files\MyPoints_PointAlert

Post a new log. Let me know if you're still having a problem.

Did you go back and check the results of those scans?

Spybot finds WildTangent with each scan. I have it fix it every time, but it always comes back on subsequent scans.

Wild Tangent could be a part of Party Poker.

Please run two of these online scans:

    housecall

    activescan

    bitdefender

If you can only run one scan, run activescan.

    Then download cleanup
and save it to your desktop. Run the setup file and then run cleanup. Open cleanup and click the cleanup button. This will clean cookies, temp internet folders, temp folders and cache.

Post the results of the online scan(s). There may be some files they don't remove.
