Run Norton A/V again and write down the files that it does not delete. Post the files so I can see them.

  • edited June 2005
I have delete msdirectx.sys file, i have run Norton again and it notices the same file, but this time it is in the System32 folder.

Go into C:\Windows\System32 directory and delete only that file.
  • edited June 2005
Ok, i have delete that file. Can i reboot the system? Do you think that we have resolve the problem?
  • Shadow2018Shadow2018 Northwest Missouri
    edited June 2005
You may want to print these instructions for your reference.

Now reboot into safe mode. To enter safe mode>reboot>at the start up screen tap f8>when the menu appears select safe mode.
Go into the system32 directory and search for that file. If found delete it again.

Reboot into normal mode. Download the latest versions of Ad-Aware se and Spybot Search & Destroy:

    http://majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware_SE_Personal_d506.html

    http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_d2471.html

Save the setup files to your desktop. Run the setup files for each and then update them with the latest definitions. Exit these for now.

Reboot into safe mode again and run a "full system scan" with Ad-aware se and Spybot. Remove all files found.

Reboot back into normal mode. Make sure you can view all hidden files:

    Open my computer>click tools>click folder options>
click view tab>check show hidden files>uncheck hide file extensions>
    click apply>click OK>exit

Post a new Hijack This log.

Ok, i have done what you have told me. I have only a doubt: The "safe mode" of which you speak corresponds to the Italian "modalità provvisoria" ? To every way, this is the new log file:

You have 2 entries of this in your log. We will remove them if it is not a legitimate program you are running.

do I have to find the file and to delete it?

Close all open windows. Place a checkmark next to these entries and click Fix Checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Advanced Protection System] advpsys.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Advanced Protection System] advpsys.exe

Search for this file, advpsys.exe, and delete it.

Then run two of these online scans:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

If any files are unable to be cleaned/deleted let me know that in your next post.

Initially I have scan the computer with Panda that has eliminated the whole infected files, inclusive advpsys.exe in System32, that I had already eliminated. Then I have run Bitdefender that has again found advpsys.exe in System32, but it has not succeeded in eliminating it. Infact advpsys.exe is again in my log.

In practice this has happened: Norton doesn't say the virus anymore, the file msdirectx.sys doesn't result in the computer as advpsys.exe anymore, but from the log it emerges that advpsys.exe (that all the on-line antiviruses notice it as infected by rootkit) is still present.

"Then I have run Bitdefender that has again found advpsys.exe in System32, but it has not succeeded in eliminating it."

Is advpsys.exe still in the system32 folder? If it still exists there follow these steps to remove it:

    Open Killbox.

In the "Full path of file to Delete" type in:

    C:\Windows\System32\advpsys.exe

Choose the delete on reboot option.

Click the delete file button (red button w/ white x).

A first dialog box will ask if you want to delete the file on reboot, press the YES button.

A second dialog box will ask you if you want to REBOOT now. Press the YES button.

After rebooting run this online scan:

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/produc...n_principal.htm

Let me know what the results of the scan are.
