AIM problem

edited July 2005 in Science & Tech
Hi, this is my first post on these threads. I'm not the most computer literate person, so if this thread belongs in another topic, I apologize.

My AIM is not working. Boots up fine, get to my buddy list fine, but when I try to talk to someone, or someone tries to talk to me, an error pops up saying AIM has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL

There is a guide on this site on how to get rid of this problem for XP/2000. My computer runs on Windows ME. Can anyone help me with this problem? I've run spyware with no effect.

Thanks.

Did you try just reinstalling AIM? That usually fixes stuff like that, and since your buddy list is stored on the server, you can't loose it.

I'd say completely uninstall AIM, then download and install the newest version.

You could also just make the switch to another, more robust, and less adware-esk client, like Trillian: www.trillian.cc

oh yeah... and Welcome to Short-Media!

instead of downloading and installing the latest version though, go to here and get the last 5.5 version they released, 5.9 just blows

Another great alternative is gaim its simmiler to trilian but doesn't make you pay for a full featured version.

Why doesn't everyone just switch to MSN Messenger. It's better than AIM, you can talk to more than one person at a time while not so much on AIM. AIM is the worst. Why do people use it? I guess that that's just my personal oppinion. Welcome to Short-Media.

Yea, by now, the quality of the client doesn't matter because you can always just get Trillian. I'm still on the AIM network because most of my buddies are, and they are only still on it, cause their buddies are. It's a self perpetuating system.

I use Trillian, and I connect to all of the major services to give my clients and students better access to me, no matter what service they use...

I unistalled AIM, then redownloaded it.

I'm not a big fan of MSN personally.

I'm saying that you can hold a conversation with more than one person at a time in the same window and those people can talk to eachother. It then becomes a kind of chatroom. Do you see what I'm saying? You can't do that with AIM. I don't know that much about the others but I've looked for the option in AIM and it doesn't exist.
