Problems downloading Service Pack 2 to Windows XP

edited June 2005 in Science & Tech
This has happened several times. It begins downloading, no problem, then about 1/3 of the way through, the 'Access is denied' message comes up and game over. Then the removal process starts. I defragged the system to see if that helped, but no luck. How can I find out the origin of this problem?

you might have a spyware problem. Make sure your computer is completely clean and free of spyware, viruses, and trojans before you install (install is the correct term. to "download" is the act of bringing the file to your computer, after which you install it). Read this. :)

Do you have daemon tools or alchol 120% installed (or another CD rom emulator that can mount disk images). They conflict with service pack rollups :)

Shorty, I don't have any of that (much less know what they are ;). I ran Adaware - nothing came up - then Spybot, which found a bunch of commercial stuff, which I cleared, but nothing major. Spybot also found two items which it indicated it could not clear and recommended I run AVG. The names were very long, beginning with C:/D (documents?), then further along (in both cases) AAWTMP - ring any bells? I could run Spybot again if you need to know. Ran AVG. Nothing. Went ahead and tried to download (I am downloading, aren't I primesuspect?) SP2. Same deal.

    I await your instructions!
