don't choose anything. Don't use the internet connection wizard.

first click start, click run, and then type "winipcfg" and hit enter

Select your ethernet card in the dropdown list. What does it say in there?

theres ppp adapter, or Realtek RTL8029(AP) Ethernet Adapter. i chose the latter, and pressed ok... internet still doesnt work, if it was supposed to

    No, I'm just gathering info.

Okay, select the Realtek. That's your network card.

Now, with that selected, click release IP and then renew IP.

When that's done, let me know.

Okay, click "start" and then click "run" and then type "command" and hit enter.

Once you are at the command prompt, type "ping www.google.com" and hit enter. What does it say?

Not in front of a 98 PC at the moment but I seem to remeber that you go to control panel, internet options and somewhere in there you select LAN. You then get to select a new account and in the following options you say that you are connecting via LAN not a dial up modem.

Something like that, sorry it's vague. :(

when the wizard starts just select 'I want to set up my internet connection manually' then select 'Lan connection' and 'no proxy server' and that should be it.

edit: also, I seem to remember if you have the 'MSN connection' icon on your desktop you need to delete it.
