Let me know what you find. If it's a hardware problem I may be able to send a replacement to you from the parts bin. :)

ok any clue guys? im stumped. keeps locking on "installing devices" with 35 minutes in winxp sp2. this is the only hardware i have connected...

    hdd
    video
    ram
    ps2 keyboard
    cd-rw

i have tried agp and pci video, still locks
    i have tried 3 different hdd's
" " 2 diff sticks of ram, in each ram slot
    " " a duron cpu, the 2500+
all components work on other pc's

Try setting everything in the BIOS to dog-slow levels, as in slow RAM timings, turn off all performance features, etc. If you can get past the installation process you can then try jacking everything back up to its rated speed.

    Good luck. :)

probably the ram. can you swap some other ram in to test? either that or the cpu. that's my opinion. there are others like, but this one is mine.

    SM21 is back up...finally

it was the RAM...sorta. took the 256mb stick out, threw it against the wall, put it back in a different ram slot, SM21 works now.

so the RAM seems fine..just ram slot on mobo no good possibly.

    onward

I haven't tried that technique on my busted rig yet, ( throws old hard drive against wall)

Well didn't work for me, glad it worked for you though.

Sooo - do I throw the machine without the RAM at the wall, or the stick of RAM? If not the former, I think that explains why the technique doesn't work for me.

    UPDATE:

attempted to upgrade SM21's ram from 256mb to 512mb. I was unsuccessfull. 2 out of the 3 ram slots are borked, only slot 3 is good. i think the KV7 has seen better days.
